Masai Barefoot Technology (Masai Shoes)

Masai shoes use the so-called Masai Barefoot Technology. Swiss Masai AG (Switzerland) produces them.

Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) is a concept of footwear that allegedly helps make people walk as nature planned.

The idea behind MBT is to imitate walking barefoot, copying the gait of the Masai people.

Masai shoes have a bulky shape with a cutaway heel. This revolutionary approach changes the hard surface into uneven ground like walking in sand.

MBT shoes have been in the market since 1996. It is supposed that, the Masai people of East Africa have provided practical proof of the helpfulness of this technology for thousands of years.

The Maasai rarely experience joint and back pain and they enjoy stable health and outstanding athletic ability.

Swiss engineer Karl Muller discovered the secret of the Masai. The secret is that walking barefoot on soft and natural ground means that they have to balance their bodies with each step.

Masai shoes are meant to make the natural instability of soft surfaces available to people who move on hard ground.

Benefits of Masai shoes are said to be:

  • You can cover high mileage comfortably even in warm temperatures
  • The shoe can give you a good workout by causing you to walk more dynamically using a wider range of muscles
  • You burn more calories for every hour that you wear them
  • The shoes help tone hard-to-target muscles in the legs
  • The shoes help improve your posture
  • The Masai shoes eliminate back pain and foot problems
  • They may lessen the occurrence of some musculoskeletal problems
  • They are better for hips, knees and ankles than standard footwear
