Kenya Coffee

Kenya has a reputation as a top quality coffee producer. All Kenya coffee is of Arabica variety.

Its coffee is the best among of the world's finest Arabica coffee.

It has a strong identity, and no coffee is truly similar.

Kenya produces over 2 million bags of coffee each year. Most of Kenya's coffee crop grows in the fertile red volcanic soil.

Kenya’s coffee gets its wonderful flavour from this rich volcanic soil and high altitudes. The coffee crop is cultivated at altitudes between 4,900 and 6,800 feet.

Small coffee cooperatives bring together over 300,000 small farms. Most farms are about half an acre in size on average.

There are two flowerings in each season. The blossom usually appears shortly after the beginning of the long rains in March and April. In most districts, the crop ripens from around October until December.

The second and smaller flowering season comes with the short rains in October and November. These are picked in the early part of the season starting from June.

Only red ripe cherries are picked during the harvest. They are always picked by hand. This requires frequent picking rounds. Each tree is picked every one and a half weeks.

Kenyan coffee is a major export. It provides jobs and security to thousands of people and plays a key role in development.
